ABSTRACT


Nowadays, we all are working in those jobs that require us to stare at computer screens for several hours in a day that can result in strain on eyes. Eye disorders caused by excessive usage of computers can lie under the heading of Computer vision syndrome. Research shows that 65 to 95 percent of people who work at computer screens have some of the common symptoms that include strain and discomfort in eyes. Only adults are not affected with this condition but children also show symptoms of this syndrome because of the overuse of tablets or the computers during school time. Experiencing computer vision syndrome doesn’t mean completely giving up on your screen time, you just have to make a difference to view a digital screen. DIAGNOSIS

  • Visual acuity measurements

  • Any refractive error

  • Any ongoing medication for underlying pathology


TREATMENT


Solution for digital screen related problems varies from patient to patient.

  1. Provide eyeglasses specifically for computer work only, if already using glasses then they must have properties of optimal vision for computer use.

  2. If you are experiencing coordination problems then a program of vision therapy must be needed also known as visual training in which some visual activities are taught to improve visual abilities and trains the brain and eye to work efficiently.

  3. Location of the computer screen should be lower 15 to 20 degrees from the patient’s eye level.

  4. Avoid glaring or use of anti-glare screens.

  5. Rest breaks should be provided to prevent eye strain

  6. Blinking of eyes frequently to minimise the chances of development of dry eye syndrome.

Making these changes may help to reduce the symptoms of Computer vision syndrome in many people and if you have any underlying pathology your physician must advise you for

  • Lubricating drops

  • Take antihistamines.

  • Artificial tear drops

  • Use a humidifier.
