They are primarily responsible for the exchange of atmospheric oxygen with the carbon dioxide produced in the body. The lungs receive deoxygenated blood of the complete body through the heart.


The cancer of the lungs is usually due to abnormal growth of cancerous cells in the lungs. This growth is uncontrollable and may metastasize to other parts of the body. The lungs also receive tumor cells from other parts of the body but that is not considered as the cancer of the lungs instead it is taken as the metastasized cancer from the respective organ.
