Neurofibromatosis Syndrome

A genetic disorder, Neurofibromastosis Syndrome is a condition that causes defects in the nervous system. Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder in which tumors form on the nerve tissue.


These tumors develop anywhere in your nervous system, including the brain and the spinal cord. This disease is identified by dark skin patches and tumors on the nerves. These tumors are usually benign (non cancerous) but sometimes it converts to malignant (cancerous). The symptoms depend on the types of neurofibroma. Common symptoms include hearing loss, learning impairment, cardiovascular problems, loss of vision, and severe, chronic pain.


NEUROFIBROMATOSIS SYNDROME CLASSIFIED INTO 3 TYPES

  • Neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1)

  • Neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2)

  • Schwannomatosis.


  • Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) mostly affects the Central nervous system (CNS). NF1 complication includes visual loss secondary to optic nerve gliomas, spinal cord tumors, scoliosis, vascular lesions.

  • Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) is less common than NF1. NF2 usually develop benign tumors, slow-growing tumors on both ears.

  • Schwannomatosis is a rare type of neurofibromatosis. This type of neurofibromatosis develops on cranial, spinal nerves. It causes chronic pain.

SYMPTOMS OF NEUROFIBROMATOSIS


Neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1)
  • Flat, light brown spots on the skin.

  • Freckling in the armpits.

  • Tiny bumps on the iris of your eye

  • Soft bumps on or under the skin

  • Bone deformities (Abnormal bone growth).

  • Tumor on the optic nerve (optic glioma).

  • Learning disabilities.

Neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2)

Neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2) is less common than NF1. NF2 caused by the development of benign, slow-growing tumors (acoustic neuromas) in both ears.

When NF2 develops to the growth of schwannomas in other nerves, like cranial, spinal, visual nerves.


Signs and Symptoms of these schwannomas can include:

  • Weakness in the arms or legs

  • Pain

  • Balance difficulties

CAUSES OF NEUROFIBROMATOSIS


Neurofibromatosis is caused by genetic disorder is called mutation which is caused by deletion or addition in any genes. Either transferred by a parent to the progeny or occur spontaneously.


NF1- The NF1 gene is located on chromosome 17. This gene produces a protein called neurofibromin that helps regulate cell growth.

NF2- The NF2 gene is located on chromosome 22, This gene produces a protein called merlin.


NATURAL REMEDIES FOR NEUROFIBROMATOSIS


Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder that affects the nervous system. Although it is hereditary and there is no cure for this disease, still we have some natural remedies for neurofibromatosis.


Aloe Vera​

Aloe Vera is a natural compound that is found in the aloe plant. The gel of the aloe leaves is rich in immune boosting nutrients. Take the juice of aloe vera regularly.


Essential Oil

The Jasmine, juniper, lavender, peppermint, rose, rosemary, and thyme are the essential oil to treat the nerve pain. Apply it regularly.


Cat's claw (Uncaria tomentosa)

Cat's claw extract has powerful antioxidant effects. Traditionally Cat's Claw boosts immune system and has anti-tumor properties.

Curcumin

  • Drink a glass of turmeric milk daily. Also, include turmeric in your cooking.

Green Tea
  • Regularly taking green tea is a simple home remedy to boost immunity. The antioxidants in green tea protect the body from free-radical damage, which is essential to keep the immune system strong.

  • Steep a green tea bag in a cup of hot water for 5 minutes.

  • Remove the tea bag, add honey and drink it.

  • Drink 2 to 3 cups of green tea daily.

Garlic
  • Garlic is a natural immune booster. Garlic enhances immune functions and has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral activities. Garlic has an active ingredient allicin helps to fight infections. It has vitamins C and B6 that help to boost the immune system.

  • Eat 2 to 3 raw cloves of garlic on an empty stomach daily. Also, add crushed garlic to your dishes.

Ginger

According to Ayurveda, ginger is a good remedy to boost immunity. Ginger helps to break down toxins which are accumulated in the body. Ginger also improves blood circulation. Include ginger into your diet is easy because it can be consumed in liquid, powder, dried and juice forms.​

  • Silvestrol (Aglaia Foveolata)

  • Raw fruits and vegetables, organic, Nuts, seeds, whole grains, and low-fat yogurt include in your diet.

  • Take soy protein, and in dairy products, yogurt only.

  • Do regular exercise.
